What exactly do you mean by “hidden”?
Is the hidden text field you can read data from, on the same form as the combobox field?
Do you have “Generate HTML for all fields” checked on the form?
Use View Source to examine the HTML. Is the combobox field in the HTML? What is the HTML for this field?
Did you try to access the field? Do we get to see your code (JavaScript, I’m assuming)?

Hi !
If the combobox is present (see via HTML source), with javascript search for the option selected not the value
