Access error

Some quick background…my Lotus/Domino experience is very limited, I kind of jumped into it head-first about a month ago. I am the administrator of a Domino server and Notes environment, and I have Full Access Administrator rights. That being said, here’s what’s going on…I have three problems to address

Problem 1:

I cannot open, change ACL’s on, or access any real admin options on several users’ mail files via my Domino Administrator client. I receive the following error:

“You are not authorized to perform that operation: Servername/Organizaion mail\flast.nsf”

I’m kind of confused how a Full Access Admin does not have access to change an ACL…

Problem 2:

In a related problem, there are some users’ files that I can open, but when go to ‘Tools’->‘Preferences’, I receive a message stating, “The specified agent does not exist.”

Problem 3:

We use a database called Contact! for contact management, and I recently granted a new user access to the database. However, the new user can only view contacts listed in the database from one specific organization, the user should be able to view all the contacts. I have tried giving the user full access to the database and the Contact! Lookups database, but still was met with the same result…I’m not sure if this is a database that is specific to my organization or if it like a template that others use as well, just let me know if you know something.

Thanks!

You can have the full access role (server document field) but you shoudl also ‘take’ it. Have you done that (in Domino Admin - Administration - Full Access Administration.

Isn’t that contact thing something from Symantec? It’s not a standard Notes database as far as I know.

Don’t know about your second issue. Maybe do a refresh design on the mailfile and try again?

I don’t know how to ‘take it’, as you have suggested.

And how do I refresh the design on the mail file?

Just curious … what ID do you use when you login to the Administrator client?

Assuming you are logging in with your personal ID which is a full access administrator, consider this :

  • take a look at the ACL of user’s mail file. You will find that the ‘Administrator/’ has manager rights by default for all of them. But your own ID may not be listed there at all - which means no access. If, however, you are part of a group of Admins (eg: LocalDomainAdmins), then that group should be listed in the ACL of each mail file (as far as I know this is not by default when a mail file is created).

So you have two options:

  • login as Admin on the domino server, change the ACL of each mail account and add your own ID with whatever rights you want.

OR login into your Administrator client as ‘Administrator/’ with its ID file so you gain access.

I had similar issue and that’s what I found.
