About NotesSQL

Is NotesSQL going to be fixed so that IIS6.0 does not need to be run in IIS5.0 isolation mode?

Is there any plans to import ODBC driver also for linux? If not, can you explain why?

Subject: About NotesSQL

NotesSQL cannot be made to run in IIS 6 mode because of the way Notes handles multiple sessions, for NotesSQL to allow multiple user logins, it has to have a NotesSession for each login as Notes can only be logged in a 1 person at a time. The only way to do that is to have the Notes CAPI DLLs loaded into a separate process (you can only have 1 NotesSession per process), so that means NotesSQL has to spawn a separate executable to create the process (which is NSQLE32.EXE). With IIS6, because of security reasons, Microsoft disallowed spawning of executables making NotesSQL not work under IIS6. There is no way around this for NotesSQL.

Also, there will be no ODBC driver for Linux as NotesSQL is in maintenance mode – no new functionality, only bug fixes raised through the escalation process through support.

Thank you for response Ron.

I am afraid that we just have to port our application from Notes to other environment then. Its very sad because Notes is a good environment but so closed. Its difficult to extract information from it. Also requirement that website should run in IIS5.0 compability mode is quite unreasonable.

But maybe the solution could be that I could use LEI to replicate our Notes data to MS SQL and access Notes data from IIS through MS SQL. Am I wrong to assume that this would work?

Hi Jean, yes, I agree the requirement to run in IIS5 compatibility mode is unreasonable, too bad Microsoft changes things without allowing any way to work around it.

As for LEI, yes, that should work. Also, if you upgrade to Domino 7.0 when available, you can migrate your Domino Databases to DB2 and use the DB2 ODBC driver to get to the data.
