I really need for Lotus to make available the ability to use email addresses as the username. I need to be able to include these users in groups for readers/authors field purposes. This may not be an “internet standard”, but I know it is a commonly used practice on the web. I have 7000+ internet users with name@domain.com as their username. I can not create groups to be used for readers purposes because of the @ sign in the username. I found one work around in the forums, unfortunately it will not work for us without a major re-write of several applications.
I did find reference to a fix SPR# TTRT4WB29E that fixed some problem related to this, but I can not find any detail on the fix. Where can I find this?
Subject: aaaargh! Can we fix this? Please?! (email address as username)
You can use email addresses as usernames.
You need to add the email address to the username field for the people you wish to authenticate that way, and (this is important) you need to put the normal username (firstname + " " + lastname (and optionally : + “/” +org)) in the group.
So the username field should look like this (for me as an example)
Tom Bosmans
Tom.Bosmans@internetaddress.com
And the group should have
Tom Bosmans
as a member.
I guess you want to use the email address to assure uniqueness, you can change the first username to look like
Tom BosmansATinternetaddress.com
Tom.Bosmans@internetaddress.com
So just replace the “@” character with something else, so you can use this string as the username in your groups.
cheers,
Tom
