A User keeps getting "Remote Server not known as TCP/IP host" message and then has to re-startup

A User keeps getting “Remote Server not known as TCP/IP host” message and then has to re-startup. Her connection is lost and it’s really random. Sometimes twice a week, sometimes twice a day. I have looked everywhere and can’t quite figure it out. Any ideas out there for me?

Thanks in advance.

This error is usually posted when the client tries to obtain the IP Address of the Domino server from DNS, but the DNS lookup fails for some reason.

When the problem occurs next time, check that this client can ping the DNS server and indeed has a DNS server address listed in its Operating System TCPIP settings.

Putting a local connection document in the user’s Personal Address Book would probably get round the issue, since the user would then have the IP address locally and a DNS lookup would not be needed

However, I prefer not to put the IP address in local NAB’s because you might want to change the IP Address at a later date. If so you would then need to manually change any such client connection documents. I guess that’s your choice really.

you could also use the full hostname instead of the ip address. The hostname is less likely to be changed.

Phil,

That hopefully has fixed it. What a simple answer. Thanks very much for your help.
