A question on Ports

I have a general question about ports

This is a one server Dom 6.01 environment. No others in the domain but the server has two network cards configured. One internally and one externally to the internet.

TCPIP TCP NETWORK1 10.9.9.4

TCPIP2 TCP NETWORK2 216.150.123.215

Is it necessary to use two different port names and two different network names for this configuration? And what are the advantages to

doing this ?
