I was wondering if there’s a way for me to create a mail rule that, after entering certain keywords, will auto-reply the sender with a message to the effect of “Your question will not be addressed unless you use the correct means of contacting support. Our support address is support@host.com”.
The reason behind this is that I get a lot of support e-mails to my personal e-mail and not to our support e-mail, and people either don’t get it or think that the lack of a penis makes my words worthless (sorry about that).
You could write an agent to do this. Regular mail rules do not have what you’re looking for.
From personal experience, though, know that it is not a bad thing to be the go-to person for support. Think of it as a compliment, and gently redirect when necessary.
let those who send to your personal email wait longer before you respond to them. Then when someone asks why it took so long for you to respond simply tell them had they sent it to the support email address you would have received it sooner and hence would have responded sooner.
And your comment was quite funny too (even though you probably didn’t intend it to be funny - I understand your dilemma - my wife often makes the same comment too)
The problem here is that the bosses want people to send all support cases and questions to the support mailbox. This is because it can happen that I’m sick, in a conference, on vacation, etc. and can’t (or won’t) read my e-mail. The support mailbox is always manned, therefore they get a faster answer. Plus there are statistics reports taken from that db and they’re not accurate because of this.
I always tell people that they should use our support mail because of the reasons above, but what I say apparently doesn’t matter and I got tired of it and thought that it’s time to bring out the guns.
I don’t know how to program in Lotus Script but I’ll look into it and in the mean time I’ll do as Gerald recommended.
