A fix for an archiving problem

I’ve found a solution for a problem that I have seen with archiving messages in Notes R6.

Even though the archive database was located in the Data folder, Notes kept saying that it couldn’t find the file. It turns out that after you select the database with the browse button in the Archive settings, you have to manually remove the whole path (HD//Users/Me/Documents/Data/archive.nsf) and keep just the file name (archive.nsf) and Notes will find the file in the Data folder.

The problem seems to be because of the “//” that Notes replaces instead of the habitual Mac OS X “:”.

Hopes this helps someone.

Subject: Another archiving issue with a MAC client

We have noticed that the only way archiving from a MAC client will work is that the user has Manager ACL acces to his/her mailfile. It is possible to set up archiving with Manager ACL access, but as soon as you change to Designer or less (we have an enterprise policy to where everyone is Designer for obvious reasons… File-Database-Delete!)… it will not work. You are prompted with a couple of messages that state “you do not have the necessary rights”. It all comes back to settings that are cached somewhere when the archive setup is done as Manager to the ACL. If you try the archive setup with anything but Manager ACL access to the mailfile, you are also unable to do so and are prompted with the same message. Has anyone seen this or better yet… figured out a way to get around it?Thanks.
