851FP3 -> FP5; DDE launch fails w/ A/V suite enabled

  • I’ve been using 851FP3 for months now. Recently I installed FP5 because the servers were migrated and we like to have everything line up when we can.- FP3 never had any issues.

  • FP5 never finishes loading DDE when ZIS (za internet security) is loaded. Since that’s loaded every millisecond the laptop is on, by design, that’s not good.

  • If I unload ZIS, DDE works. If ZIS is loaded, DDE will paint its windows, then the little “crawling blocks” simply crawl away for infinity, never consuming bandwidth to the server and never completing the load. Once it fails, it must be killed. Ctrl-Break has no effect. Unloading ZIS has no effect. Only killing all Notes process will work. Most times this doesn’t even generate a NSD, but today it did, so I have that at least.

  • Once DDE is loaded, ZIS may be reloaded and everything is hunky dory again. But it’s a tiresome dog and pony show to have to go through each and every day.

  • I’d like to know if anyone has any suggestions on resolving this. I can’t do without a security suite … this is windows. I’m sure it’s something simple that I simply can’t find.

  • I have gone into ZIS and set anything whose binary is in or under the Notes directory to the least restrictive setting possible, which pretty much means ZIS should apply no controls to them. But it may be something that’s not in the Notes directory that it didn’t use before.

Thanks for your time…

Subject: Today’s info…

  • Today it failed to run DDE from Notes. So I killed it, and got another NSD. So I tried running DDE straight, without going through Notes. It launches fine but exhibits the same behaviour when attempting to open the application. So I killed it, and got another NSD.- Then I launched Notes, but not DDE. Shut down ZIS, opened the app in DDE from Notes, and restarted ZIS. Works a treat.

  • It seems apparent something changed in FP5, since ZIS hasn’t been touched, other than to remove all restrictions from Notes.
