8.5 mail template font size in 8.5 client

I just installed 8.5 on my mac. The font in my mail file is smaller than it was in the beta versions… Is there a setting somewhere for to enlarge it? I’m trying not to be disappointed…

Subject: more info…

I just installed 8.5 on another mac with a 21" monitor thinking possibly the screen resolution had something to do with it. The font size is still too small, it’s unreadable. I can’t give this to my users.

This is extremely disappointing. Did I miss a beta release? Why the change?

Subject: Instructions to increase the font size

The font sizes in the Gold release are slightly smaller than the ones in the beta 2 release.

To increase the font size manually go to the “Lotus Notes” menu and choose “Preferences…” Then choose “Fonts” and you can then select “Normal”, “Large Fonts” or “Extra Large Fonts”.

Another option would be to change from the Notes 8 Theme to the Operating System Theme. To do this, go to Preferences and choose “Windows and Themes” and then select the new theme from the combo box under “Theme”.

If you feel that the font sizes are drastically small, please include a screen shot, just to make sure this is not a bug.

Thank you for your feed back. It is useful when making decisions about future releases.

Subject: You might also try changing the default font face

Right-click on the Notes application icon and choose Show Package Contents. Navigate to Contents/MacOS/rcp and edit plugin_customization.ini in TextEdit. Add the following line and save the file:com.ibm.rcp.ui/UI_FONT_FACE=Lucida Grande

This won’t change the size of the text, but because Lucida Grande renders a bit larger than Arial, it may be more appealing. BTW, we are using the same font size as the sidebar found on the left side of Finder windows. Again, this looks a bit bigger in Lucida Grande than Arial.

Subject: It’s just the mail file…

…the first solution (Pref…) works very well for mail, but renders the for ex. this db to ugly, as the font is too big? How come just mail template is pushed to smaller font sizes? Changing the standard just for one app isn’t that elegant in my opinion…

Subject: The Preferences setting affects all text…

When you choose Large fonts, all text is increased by 2 pt. Choosing Extra Large increases it by 4 pt. This is true for the mail db, discussion dbs, etc.

Subject: SPR

I opened a support request which resulted in an SPR for this issue.

Setting the preference to “large font” looks fine to me, however by default the “normal font” size is just too small on the mac and should be larger.

In addition to being too small, there are other display anomalies that occur when the font size is set to normal, for example extra spaces after the “w” character in the inbox subject lines. The text is not unreadable but it looks broken.

Otherwise I am very impressed with 8.5 on the Macintosh.

Subject: Same problem on Ubuntu 9.04

I had to install ttf-xfree86-nonfreee and it is ok now

Subject: Ubuntu 9.04

Thanks for this. You really need to install this font before installing Notes or you will find the dialog boxes very hard to read. I installed Ubuntu from the download CD and the ‘as is’ fonts are no good at all for Notes.
