downloaded IBM Lotus Notes Standard 8.5 Fix Pack 1 for Windows XP and Vista English (CZ34GEN.exe) from ibm web site (approx 150mb)
getting this error running the fixpack
version appears to be a visual match from the about page
is there some other place that could be out of whack?

Had the same problem with multiple Clientversions installed.
Check Windows Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes
“Path” and “DataPath” must be correct.

i took the easy option and uninstalled / reinstalled, upgraded fine after that
