Have a situation where I may have an 8.5 server living together with a 7.0.2 server in the same Domino Domain. I do not want to upgrade the design of the Domino Directory at this time, how can this be done given that the 8.5 server will be a new installation (versus an upgrade from 7.0.2)?
Subject: You can do this with proper ACL Configuration
You new Domino Server needs to have less than Designer Rights so it can’t make any design changes to the NAB nor replicate them to any other server… I have the Admin Server of my Domino Directory with MANAGER access and all other servers in the Domain have no rights higher than Editor… All design changes and ACL changes get pushed out from the Admin Server to the other servers.
I do run with the 8.5 Domino Directory Design on my 8.x, 7.x and 6.x Servers though and that works just fine as well…

That’s pretty clever! I’ve never had to do this before, I’ve always been lucky enough to be able to upgrade the admin server and push the directory design to all the other servers. Thanks!
