8.5.2 Standard on a USB stick (Nomad)

I was excited to see that 8.5.2 Standard edition release notes stated it would work in “Nomad” mode on a USB stick or other removable media. It does indeed install and the setup screens complete fine, but I can’t get it to actually launch. I’ve tried it on several computers and versions of Windows (XP and 7). I’ve tried it on several different media: USB stick, external hard drive and internal drive partition. It goes through the setup fine, but when it’s time to actually launch Notes, it shows the splash screen and keeps showing “Loading . . . Please wait”.

I love Nomad mode and use it almost exclusively in my consulting business. Any suggestions?

Subject: Add UseBasicNotes=1 to notes.ini

This entry forces the nomad-client to start in basic mode.

Subject: Look at the 7.0.2 Nomad install directions

I seem to recall that there were some tweaks that were required to get the 7.0.2 Nomad version working properly. Look in the 7 forum or possibly google for them as it didn’t work out of the box as instructed from IBM.

Subject: I never had a problem with 7.0.2

I never had a problem with 7.0.x Nomad, nor can I find anything via Google describing a fix for a problem. I still use 7.0.3 Nomad for client, admin and designer on my USB stick. Thanks anyway for the reply.

Hi Jerry, try the launch in basic mode? If this works, then you will most likely see the notes\data\workspace directory is not being created or completed. Check AV software. The location of the data\workspace does not appear to follow the notes.ini settings, but the registry HKLM\Software.…\Lotus\Notes datapath setting.Hope this gets you in the right direction.
