I realize the designer client has always been a problem in 8.5…but it seems even worse for me in 8.5.2. Opening a database in designer it will show the progress bar and then it will try to hit all the servers in my domain (you’ll see it connecting in the status bar). More of a pain and a slow down than anything, it eventually opens up. And just now I’m double clicking agents to display the list…and it clocks and this is what I see in the progress bar, once I can get that open:
Subject: I noticed that in the 8.5.2 beta but haven’t experienced it in the gold release
I don’t know if a repair install would fix it but could be worth a shot before putting a call in to IBM support.
Subject: Thanks, David…
I’ll give that a shot first.
Subject: Any luck?
Or is it still running stuff constantly in the background?
Subject: Seems a bit better…
Sorry it took me so long to post back, but it does seem to be a bit better…I don’t seem to be getting so many of those progress items, but it still tries to scan every server in our domain when it opens. And it’s still slow and I still hate using DDE, but I’ll take the progress items going away as a victory.
Thanks for your suggestion!
Subject: I have the same exact error…
when opening any database (on multiple machines), it tries to connect to every server, we have over 100 servers so it takes 5 - 10 min to open a database that resides on my LAN
Subject: Try this in the application window
Nathan Freeman posted something on his blog a long time ago about not having “Synchronize Navigator with Editor tab” clicked, as it would speed up the Designer client by not doing that synchornization. The icon in question is shown here.
