8.5.1 upgrade second server in a cluster

I have two clustered domino 8.5 64 bit on win2k8.

Want to upgrade the second one to 8.5.1 for testing iNotes etc.

Is there any risk that the primary server takes affect of this?

The design element of names etc…

Subject: 8.5.1 might touch first server…

If your cluster is configured with “best practices”, then you have a connection doc that reps every few hours between the clusters. This will rep the templates from 1 cluster server to the other.

You might want to create a VM, or new Domino server, copy over you names.nsf and a few mailboxes, then do the upgrade to 8.5.1

This will keep your test server from accidentally replicating changes.

Subject: upgrade 8.5.1

Okey,

We did the same procedure from 8.0.2 to 8.5 and didn’t have any problem but it’s maybe stupid to take a chance.

Can that be a problem that it replicates the templates? I maybe can turn off replication of templates before upgrade until I upgrade the primary server.

Subject: vm machine without repl docs

Would it be safe if I create a VM machine on the same domain but without replication docs?

Subject: Will be just fine…

The new templates will work just fine on the down level cluster mate but you do as a Best Practice want to eventually get all cluster mates to 8.5.1 even thought they still work very well in mixed version cluster. Remember databases inherit new design on 8.5.1 Server, so even if you prevent templates from replicating unless you want to prevent databases from replicating design elements in all databases (which you do not) preventing the templates from replicating doesn’t buy you much anyway… Just wanted to point that out…
