8.5.1 on IBM i

In the 8.5 download for i (aka iSeries, AS/400, AS400, OS400, OS/400, System i) along with the readme.htm file IBM also provided a read1st file. This has been dropped in 8.5.1. This told you the useful stuff like:- How to ftp the files to your i

  • What options in RSTLICPGM to use.

The readme.htm file, and none of it’s links, mention 8.5.1. And many of the links are broken.

This is what I did:

Subject: Installing on IBM i

Rob, Thank you for your comments and RSTLICPGM command examples. The syntax is correct for installations on IBM i 6.1. Remember to run the UPDDOMSVR command too to update any existing server’s data directories.

Some links to the Information Center are unresolved in the Web kit in the README.HTM file, but these should be fixed in the DVD and Incremental Installer Web kit.

All of the installation and upgrade instructions (like the RSTLICPGM commands that you referred and other install options) are now contained here. It is easier and more efficient for us to re-locate this information into a common technote that can be referred to by each of the various deliverables (Web kit, DVD, Incremental Installer) and updated as needed.

Subject: Why can they fix the DVD but not a web download?

I have a tough time grasping how they could find it in their hearts to fix a DVD distribution, but cannot fix the Web download. You would think a web download would be easier.

However, it is nice to see 8.5.1 mentioned and see the proper RSTLICPGM options.
