Can someone explain to me why 8.5.1 Domino Designer is SLOW ?!

Now 8.5 DDE (not 8.5.1) redefines slow, routinely taking over a minute and half to load up. There is nothing to done about that, except now we don’t have to use it. (happy smile)

R8.5.1 loads in under 20 seconds for me, and that’s on a virtual machine with a R8.5.1 server, another VM, an R8.5FP1 client, a browser, and three other apps running. Same speed for R8.5.1FP1. That’s three resource hogs and some popcorn on two cores, I/O bound on the hard drive, and it launches in under 20 seconds. I may slam DDE horribly, but Lotus has completely addressed launch time based on my experience.

Have you done a packet capture to see if you’re getting a network timeout on launch? That would be my first guess. Second guess would be the “printer hang” issue, but I thought that was fixed in R7. You can search this or the R6/7 forum for details, but in essence older versions used to take ages to do things when the default printer was not available to query for WYSIWG metrics.
Hope this helps…
Subject: Not slow for me…
I don’t notice that DD 8.5.1 is any slower than versions for 7 and earlier. Speed is the very least of Designer’s issues.
Subject: Compared to what?
Slower than non-eclipse client? Yes. But if you tried the first couple of eclipse versions, this one is blazing fast.
