This is a weird one. Since yesterday, my 8.02 client will (after a while) partially stop responding.
Examples of things I can still do :
select any Notes menu option
from the menu, create a new mail and use the buttons in that
In the ‘Day At A Glance’ mini calendar, select a day to view the entries
Examples of things I can’t do :
open up a mail in the inbox - double-clicking the email gets no response.
use the buttons at the top of the inbox (eg, New, Reply etc) - clicking them gets no response
Use the main outline - click any item (eg, inbox, drafts, sent etc) gets no response
in the ‘Day At a Glance’ - double clicking a calendar entry gets no response
*clicking the ‘Today’ button gets no response
It looks like the ‘Eclipse’ UI elements suddenly stop working. A restart of Notes fixes it until the next time. However, as we are about to roll this out, this is NOT GOOD!!!
Things I have changed recently -
Added 3g Connect to my machine for remote access
gone back to my old NAB (names.nsf) but replaced design with pernames.ntf on my machine/
Use 8.0.2 client at your own peril or just use 8.0.1 till 8.0.3 is out. We’ve had no issues after downgrading to 8.0.1. There is absolutely no compelling reason to use 8.0.2 in its current dysfunctional state.
8.0.2 has problems printing (sometimes you get a Notes print dialog, and all works; and sometimes you get a Windows print dialog, and the formatting is all off on paper). There are seemingly random client hangups that require extensive client tweaking to counter, and the only stable way to run it is in basic mode. Sorry… that level of crap does not justify upgrading.
Just accept that 8.0.1 is fine for now (stable is better than custom tweaks and individual work-arounds), and register your discontent with IBM/Lotus for their poor testing of 8.0.2.
It’s already more stable if you ask me…I’d do the servers, but that makes me a bit leery.
I think 8.0.2 was rushed to market…that is not a production environment client. Server seems alright for the most part, but 8.0.2 as a client? Embarrassing in my opinion.
Subject: There are also major 8.0.2 issues with composite apps
If you have more than one comp. app in a database it will keep showing the first one you opened. Something gets cached. This is supposed to be fixed in the next cumulative hotfix.
I have a user who have exactly the same problem with 8.02 and the common point is that he also has a 3G connection. Do you have more info since you posted the pb ?
What if you start notes with the -sa switch so that the basic (non-eclipse) version is started? Does it work as expected?
There is a fix for 8.0.2 out that fixes some issues particularly with starting the 8.0.2 client, you might wanna try that but unfortunately you have to go througt lotus support to get it.
