8.0.2 startup hang issue - I have tried all different suggestions - no success

My 8.02 installation (all clients install) hangs every now and then when I start notes. I have tried to (as suggested somewhere) downgrade to JRE 1.5_14 and have enabled ENABLE_EARLY_AUTHENTICATION=0 in notes.ini.

I have also tried to remove cache.ndk and the complete “workspace” directory (this action seems to solve the problem for the specific hang (I can start notes again), but the problem keeps coming back after some time, and doing this isn’t really a valid/solid solution in the long run.

These “hangs” during startup still occurs - no magic recipe found so far. I always end up running nsd -kill to terminate notes and then I have to start notes again by launching notes through a local replica of my mail file (start notes by double-clicking on the file from Explorer)

Does anyone know if the 8.0.2 fix pack (that is supposed to exist) does anything else to solve this issue?

Is your a/virus software running?with sophos i have to exclude the whole notes folder.

as it runs at 99%…cpu

I have a virus program running but the complete notes folder is excluded (in Trend Micro OfficeScan)

Subject: INI Parameter

There is a known hang in 8.0.2 Standard, but it is resolved with the ENABLE_EARLY_AUTHENTICATION=0 line. If this is the last line in your notes.ini, make sure there is a carriage return after it, as it will skip the last line in the notes.ini if the carriage return does not exist. Also, how often does this hang happen?

Subject: Same issue here with Vista

I have a fresh install of Vista ultimate and Full Notes Client with Admin and Designer. Everything worked fine for a week or so. This morning i can’t start notes. At this point i don’t have any anti virus installed.

I have a cr last in the notes.ini file. The client hangs 3-4 times a day (depending on how often I start it.

Normally I start it once or twice day. But now I try to restart abit more frequent just to see how often I encounter the problem.

Subject: INI worked so far

The ENABLE_EARLY_AUTHENTICATION=0 worked for me so far. I hit return a few times after that entry just to make sure. :slight_smile:

Subject: Notes 8.0.2 hang

I solved it with running nlnotes.exe (basic version) on my clients.

Many thought version is very slow.

Basic version is the one that supports ID Vault and roaming profile as it is now.

Subject: Notes 8.0.2 Hang after 1st launch

Recently got sporadic failures/hang after upgrades from 6.5.4->8.0.2. Done with SmartUpgrade surunas. Sometimes overwrite install fixes; sometimes renaming data dir fixes; sometime uninstall\reinstall fixes.New mail notifications appear in tray and launching -basic logs in as current Notes user.

We’ll try the return after enable, but more curious if it’s client or install package??
