I installed 8.0.2 client (full admin, designer, notes).
I created 2 locations :
Lucia for my user id
Admin for my admin id
When I open LN Client and I leave a tab opened (EG : a database or my inbox), if I switch id or I close and I reconnect with the other id, the client is not responding.
do you have an Idea??? (the same problem doesn’t happens with basic)
I installed same clients (clients, admin, designer) and have the same result, it hangs. It’s totaly unusable.
I initially installed on top of my previous version 8.0.1, as it was not working, I completely unistalled Notes and started over again the install. It then changed the time zone on the OS level. I exit notes and reset it back to the correct setting and launched Notes again. It now keeps hanging
Never had such a poor experience, even beta 8.5 seems to be better…
Installed 8.0.2 (all clients) over 8.0.1 aug 27th. Worked fine for one day. I also have version 6.5 and 7.0.3 om my machine.
Now Notes 8.0.2 keeps hanging at startup. It tries to ‘restore’ my last known Notes state (Tab Home and Tab Workspace) at startup but then it hangs just showing me the blue background of the ‘Home’ page.
I have tried removing bookmark.nsf, cache.ndk, desktop6.ndk, names.nsf and all lines from notes.ini (except first three lines) but with no luck. Keeps hanging at the same spot.
Now I have uninstalled it and will try a new install and see if it comes back to life…
EDIT 2008-08-29:
Made a new install of 8.0.2 in a different directory. So far so good. It works now. However, I have not used my ‘old’ notes.ini, bookmark.nsf, names.nsf etc and I’m not planning to either. I will only copy contacts, locations, connections from my old names.nsf and hope that everything will work even after that. Cheers!
I did nothing pervasive, just switched it off for a night and switched it on the day after.
I guess the reboot is very healthy, particularly after an install (which I did not do). When launching Notes right after the install and experiencing the hang up, I was using zapnotes to remove from memory the locked tasks.
Full reboot (as opposed to zapNotes) is the only explanation I have so far.
Actually this could be a hint for the Notes folks : to include a reboot at the end of the install.
Same problem here. Since the update from 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 my client hangs. Removing desktop6.ndk solves the problem. But leaves me without my workspace… Any solution?
This is totally unacceptable as far as I’m concerned…any upgrades from R8 whatever to R8.0.2 seem to have this issue. Renaming/Removing the bookmark.nsf or desktop6.ndk files are not an option…we have very specific/standard desktops that we use within our organization. I’m between a rock and a hard place right now…IBM is telling me the only fix for a different problem we’re having is a an upgrade to R8.0.2, but something like this is definitely a show stopper.
By the way something else I’ve tried is copying the names.nsf file via the os and pasting into the same directory, then renaming the current names.nsf to oldnames.nsf and renaming the copy to names.nsf and re-launching seems to work for one or two client launches. Then I get the same problem. I’m ready to roll everything back to 7.0.3 to be honest and I’m a STAUNCH notes supporter, but this is crazy.
ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated…something that actually works, I should say.
I agree - there are more client issues than ever with 8.0.2 (I think they where in quite a hurry to deliver something faster then 8.0.1 so probably left som bugs in there…). I see there’s an FP1 scheduled for December, but I was hoping to roll out notes 8 before this.
In the meantime, it seems like launching notes with the -sa parameter is a more stable workaround … (to run in basic mode)
I installed the same 3 clients on my machine. Rebooted and the client would hang when I launched it. I deleted everything in my temp directory and Notes came up fine.
The new installation process will removed any previous version of Notes so there should be a need to uninstall the Notes.
I have standard install with Admin and Designer clients. I switched location, same problem. Incidentally, I had some tabs open, that the location\ ID I was switching to, does not have access to. In 8.0.1 this was not a problem.
I tried switching back to origianl location, no joy. I deleted temp files, no joy. Then I launched Basic client, shut it down, relaunched Standard…that worked.
Coincidence, probably, but worth a go.
Update…
I spoke too soon. I did the above, but it would not let me swicth to new location (with new ID). I switched to original location, shut down the tabs the other ID did not have access to, then switched location. That seemed to cure it…!!!
I have had this problem on both of the PCs I installed 8.0.2 on. On the desktop PC, I installed 6.5.4 again, partly because most of my users are still on that Client so it helps for troubleshooting.
I am hoping that this client hang is only a problem for installations from 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 (as both of my PCs were). Anyone see otherwise?
