8.0.2 - 5.0.11 replication broken after upgrade

I just had a bad experience with replication after an upgrade to 8.0.2:

Server A is 5.0.11 i5/OS V5R1

Server B is now 8.0.2 (was 8.0.1) i5/OS V5R4

Server C is 7.0.2 win32

After upgrading Server B, it now throws me the following error when trying to replicate with Server A:

Unable to replicate names.nsf: This function is not implemented on this version of the server

The same error is logged for every other database it tries to replicate.

We are not using any compression/encryption etc on the ports.

IBM supported has so far turned down my case because v5 is obviously no longer supported.

Has anyone got a 8.0.2 server replicating successfully with a v5 server on any platform?

Thanks for any input on this…

Regards,

Hans

Subject: Possible workaround?!?

I got the same problem on an rather ancient server using 5.0.11 which also cannot be upgraded…

The replication does not work if it is initiated by the new 8.0.1 or greater server.

If the old 5.0.11 server initiates the replication everything works OK.

Hope that helped,

Jan

Subject: Re: 8.0.2 - 5.0.11 replication broken after upgrade

Hans,

I can see your dilemma, with Domino Server A’s Operating System & Lotus Domino release(s) being Out of Support. However, replicating a Domino v5.0.x Server with a Domino v8.0.x Server is probably not a good idea for several reasons relating to differences in Database Design (i.e. Templates) and raw Functionality of the two versions.

That said, you should focus on upgrading the Operating System of Domino Server A to at-least V5R2, V5R3, or V5R4. This would allow you to then upgrade the Domino v5.0.11 Server to v6.5.x or v7.0.x. With Domino Server A at a 6.5.x release, you should be able to achieve successful Replication amongst Domino Servers A, B, and C.

Now, if the Operating System on Domino Server A cannot be upgraded to V5R2, V5R3, or V5R4 due to Hardware-related reasons, then you could simply migrate Domino Server A to an iSeries with a newer version of i5/OS.

In summary, don’t focus on achieving Replication between 5.0.11 and 8.0.2 - you’re only going to run into more headaches which will be far greater to resolve than this problem. Instead, focus on moving towards a supported-environment.

Subject: Replication Still Happens

I am also having this problem with a satelite company that cannot upgrade right away.

I find that the replication still happens, even witht he error.
