6.5.x to 8.5 Mac Client migration

Hi all folks, nice to see the new 8.5 Mac Notes Client.

I try to migrate from 6.5.x to 8.5 but the old user data directory (~/Documents/Data) and the Noted Preferences are ignored.

I install the packages from c1sp3en.dmg on Mac OS X 10.5.5 (PPC and Intel).

Any ideas what’s going wrong,

Lutz

Hi Lutz,

I’ve passed this question along to development. We’ll post specific information shortly.

Subject: Upgrade from 6.5 to 8.5

Hi,

We did not follow that path. We did an upgrade from 6.5 to 7.02. (The beta had a very specific 7.x upgrade point.) Then we upgraded to the Notes 8.5 Mac beta. When Notes 8.5 came out, we de-installed Notes, deleted the templates NTFs(leaving the personal dbs) and installed Notes 8.5. After the upgrade, we went to update the design, but it appears the install did that already. We’ve had no problems. The 8.5 install did reuse the previously installed folders.

Technically, with beta software, you should wipe, but we tried it and it worked w/o doing that. Hope this helps.

Subject: Upgrade from 6.5 to 8.5

Hi Tripp, nice to see the migration from 7.0 to 8.5 works well, but I/we use 6.5. Hopefully I find a migration pass, because I’m not interesting in migrating in two steps, 6.5 to 7.0 to 8.5.

Are you using a shared environment, with ~/Documents/Data or an single User environment with the Data directory inside the Notes Application directory?

Thanks for any help,

Lutz

Subject: Steps for upgrading

Please be sure you’ve upgraded to 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 prior to embarking on these steps.

  1. Backup 6.5 data folder(default folder locates at /Applications/Lotus Notes/Data)

  2. Install Notes 8.5

  3. Copy files under 6.5 data folder to new Data folder (~/Library/Application Support/Lotus Notes Data)

  4. Launch Notes from /Applications/Notes.app.

The usual DB files like Contact DB, bookmark will be upgraded automatically.

But please notice, the workspace will not be upgraded. You will be prompted to create one new workspace when launch the Notes at the first time.

Thanks,

Sarah

Hi,I talk to some notes folks, they think it’s a language/localization problem, the old german client doesn’t fit to the new english one.

I try to migrate with the german notes client again, maybe all data is available then.

Bye, Lutz

p.s.

The german client became available in some weeks/month.

Subject: Steps for upgrading

Hi,I doesn’t work.

I copy all files from “~/Documents/Data” to “~/Library/Application Support/Lotus Notes Data” and start the Notes 8.5 Client the first time (with this user).

I got the “Choose Location” message box, select a location and press “OK”.

Now I got the a message box with " Unablae to load Workplace file /lutz/Library Application Support/Lotus Notes Data/desktop8.ndk. No error. Delete the file and create a new workplace", I select “Yes” (this is the message you talk about).

Now I got the “Client Configuration Dialog”.

The “Notes Preferences” file is not migrated, it’s a new one.

The Mail Database contain some Data but I can’t read any Mail.

Any idea what’s going wrong,

Lutz
