6.5 Admin Client doesn't show directory links properly

Hi all, anyone having a suggestion towards this one?

Problem:

After upgrading a Domino 5.0.11 server to 6.5.2, the freshly installed 6.5.2 Administration Client is not able to properly display the original directory links. A variety of problems show up:

  • subdirectories in the linked directory are never displayed

  • only some but not all databases in a linked directory are displayed

  • there are “empty directories” (no directory name, no database, only a graphic) showing up in Admin Client

  • additionally, the correct linked subdirectory structure shows up in “grayed out” graphics, but without displaying any databases in them

Supporting Information:

  • Using different ND6 admin clients and different versions does not improve the situation

  • the problem occurs with 3 independant servers

  • when accessing the ND 6 server with an R5 administration client, everything seems to work properly

  • ND6 and R5 users using their normal Notes client do not experience any problems at all. Every FILE - DATABASE - OPEN works properly

Thanks for any ideas,

Stephan

Subject: Directory links: answering my own post; it’s a bug !?

Ok, now I’m answering my own post again, hope it helps someone else on this …

ANALYSIS / FINDINGS:

The Domino Administrator seems to have a problem if a nested directory link is placed on the same disk as the Domino Directories (in my case, program and data directory were installed on the same disk, I didn’t investigate other configurations). So, my customer’s config was as follows:

E:\

____Lotus

________Domino

____________Data

____Dirlinks

________Data

____________ProjectA

This setup resulted in dirlinks failed which

pointed to E:\Dirlinks\Data. They didn’t display the ProjectA subdirectory in the ND6 Admin Client.

As pointed out in my main posting, end users and normal clients didn’t experience any problems.

MORE INFO:

When moving the Dirlinks subdirectory to another disk, this does not solve the problem.

WORKAROUND:

If Dirlinks are used for securing directory access, use directory ACLs instead (although they also have a display problem in the Domino Administrator as the “lock” button indicating the presence of a directory ACL is only displayed when the link has just been created - it vanishes as soon as the view is refreshed or Domino Administration Client gets restarted).

If Dirlinks are used for splitting up the data directory onto multiple harddisks, I am not aware of a workaround. Perhaps someone has an idea towards that?

Subject: Directory links: there must be a bug…

I have no way to change quotas on a 6.5.2 server for databases that reside on another disk in a multiple directory structure. Users can navigate to the databases without any problems with either R5 or ND6 clients.

Subject: 6.5 Admin Client doesn’t show directory links properly

i’ve got the same problem. i’m using directory links to add space via another hard drive, the problem being that i can’t do anything within the admin client with any subdirectories in those links. yet the normal client can browse them without a problem???
