6.5.1 & SameTime

Hello All,

Can someone clarify something for me? My understanding is that SameTime is incorporated in 6.5.1 of Notes/Domino. But my question is: do you still get this functionality even despite not having an actual SameTime server? Also, is the licensing based on the number of clients, and what can you do to purchase more SameTime licenses.

Thanks All…

Sean Paul

You need a Sametime server. If users have a license to use the 6.5.1 Lotus Notes client, they can use the integrated instant messaging features.

For other Sametime features, like web conferencing and the rich Sametime Connect client, each user must purchase a full Web Conferencing/IM client license.

And so is it correct to assume that there is no cost to the Sametime server ?

We have installed our new 6.5.1 servers (for a 4.6 to 6.5.1 migration) along with a Sametime server. I don’t expect to pay for it and my Business Partner doesn’t expect any money !

There is no cost for the Sametime Server software. Of course, you must install Sametime on a Domino server.

That’s what you’re asking – do you need to buy another Domino server license?

If you’re using that Domino server for Sametime and nothing else, then the answer is No.

If you’re using that Domino server for anything else, like user mailboxes, custom database applications, etc., then you need to purchase a Domino server license. Make sense?

Everyone I know hosts Sametime on a dedicated server. It’s not required, but it makes sense.
