6.0.2CF1 Upgrade problems

Two of the three domino servers I have tried to upgrade from 6.0.1 to 6.0.2CF1 have failed horribly.

I downloaded the incremental installer and applied it to the first system - it went just fine.

Each of the next two went through the entire upgrade. At the very end, I got the following popup:

There are no version resources in this executable. It is either corrupt or built wrong.

The first failed machine was upgraded from the exact same downloaded installer as the 1st, successful install. The second failed machine was upgraded using a brand new download.

Following the failure, when the Domino service tries to start, I get an error:

The dynamic link library ninotes.dll could not be found in the specified path

Since these last two were production systems (the first was in the lab), I had to scramble - I copied the .exe and .dll files from the successful server to the failed servers and was able to get the system back up.

Anyone else seen this?

Subject: 6.0.2CF1 Upgrade to 6.0.3 Failed.

I just got the same exact thing going from 6.0.2CF1 to 6.0.3 this morning. I tried installing a copy of the 6.0.3 version of ninotes.dll to the server, and it will start, but only run a couple minutes while before crashing hard with an access violation error. I’m afraid I’m probably going to have to restore this whole server from last night’s backup. I’m hoping to try installing a fresh, new, empty 6.0.2CF1 onto a blank, empty machine, try the 6.0.3 upgrade on that and then copying all the exes/dlls/non-data stuff before resorting to a whole system restore from tape. This is not fun at all.

I couldn’t seem to salvage the failed 6.0.3 upgrade… had to do a “re-install downgrade” from my 6.0.2CF1 cdrom to bring the server back to life. I think I should probably leave it at 6.0.2CF1 for a while until a few more pilgrims blaze down that pioneer trail and iron out the wrinkles.

I had two servers to upgrade, both running 6.0. I had a CD for 6.02CF1, so upgraded both to 6.02CF1, which worked fine on one, and failed on the other. After renaming the problem files (see http://www.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/55c38d716d632d9b8525689b005ba1c0/be6bb5f079d06bd985256d580031f86c?OpenDocument) I finally got both to 6.0.2CF1.

Next came the 6.0.2 CFx - 6.0.3 incremental…again, worked fine on one, but failed horribly on the same problem server above. After reinstalling 6.0.2CF1 and then running the incremental about 4 times (seriously - uninstalling, and reinstalling), it just finally decided to work, and has been running successfully so far since (fingers crossed).

Both servers are running Windows 2000 so I have no idea what the difference between them are. Fortunately the problem server is a dev server, so there was no real harm caused.

About to try to other servers which are both starting from 6.0.1…hopefully they will follow the “no problem” server!
