2X domino domains 1X server

Hi there

I require some help/advice on domino. Our company is entering into an affiliation with another company. However, we are running separate domains.

Basically

current domain - we’ll call it x.com

static IP address pointing to our domino server (v7.0.1)

username setup is:

jbloggs@x.com

new domain (we’ll call it y.com) (not yet purchased)

setup mx record and point to current domino server

usernames for email address is the same format as for x.com (eg jbloggs@y.com)

I need to know how to setup our domino server to do the following:

  1. continue to accept email from x.com user (ie jbloggs@x.com) but forward it to y.com user (ie jbloggs@y.com)

2)Make y.com DEFAULT domain (if such a thing is required) and change all users’ email addresses to be jbloggs@y.com and for outgoing mail to use this email address.

Can this be done with a single domino server?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

What you need to do is pretty easy although you will need to know some Lotus Development if you want to make it fast.

What you need to do is to modify the Global Domain Document in your server, from x.com to y.com and make x.com an alias (In the second tab if I remember correctly).

Note: If there is no global domain document, create it. And you can make y.com the new alias, is the same.

With that, your server will accept mails from both domains.

Now, for the users, you have two choices. In the person document, above the internet address is the forwarding address. While this might work, I recommend doing this instead:

  • Copy the internet address into the username field in the person document (That will make an alias for the user)

  • Modify the x.com to y.com

That last part is time consuming but you can make it easy with an agent. I am sorry but I am not developer so I can’t help you with that.

If you are only changing the domain, this is the only thing you will need to do. If you are also changin the /ORG there are a LOT of things you will need to do.

Hope it helps.
