Hi all,Whenever I try to compact any database it gives the following error:
“Error compacting abc.nsf: Database is currently in use by you or another user”
I found the reason is that Notes 6 has introduced the concept of locking.
Even if one user is using the db it gives this error.
I have to drop all sessions to compact the db.
But I want individual users to compact their own mail files what should I configure?
What is the workaround to this ?
Many thanks

Is the database in the database cache? Try to flush it (tell dbcache flush) several times after you’ve dropped the sessions and then type in the compact command…

Hi Dorothy,
I’ve seen this error message a few times in my workplace (not related to compacting). Are you running backup software of any sort? If so, we had the error message “database is currently in use by you…” and it turned out that the backup software had the file(s) locked and therefore the user(s) could not use their database during this time.

Thanks for the post…I never experienced this problem in R5…
I dont have any backup software running but would a virus scanner also lock the file…
thanks

Yes, a virus scanner would lock the file.
You should set any OS level virus checkers to ignore .nsf files or the Domino data folder. They cannot scan .nsf files internally anyway so this is a pointless scan.
